Community Outreach
During the 2011-2012 NBA D-League Season the Los Angeles D-Fenders serviced the Los Angeles community in many ways and showed that they can be champions on the court and in the community. Highlights include:

  • Working with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to put together food boxes to be distributed to food pantries all around Los Angeles.
  • Visiting Valor Academy, a local charter school, and teaching the 7th grade student body how to live a healthy and active lifestyle during NBA FIT Week.
  • Hosting basketball clinics at various community groups throughout the season.
  • Donating autographed memorabilia to local nonprofit organizations to assist in their fundraising purposes.
  • Joining TreePeople at a tree planting event in Inglewood to support people becoming more environmentally friendly.

    Game Night Programs:
    The Los Angeles D-Fenders understand the importance of their fans and appreciate all of their support throughout the season. In an effort for the D-Fenders to connect with their young fans at the games they have game night programs and promotions that they host at every D-Fenders home game.     Community News:
    The D-Fenders Partner With TreePeople for NBA Green Week
    In honor of NBA Green Week the Los Angeles D-Fenders partnered with TreePeople and 60 students from Brentwood High School to beatify a local park.
    D-Fender Otis George Visits Valor Basketball
    During the 2011-2012 NBA D-League basketball season, Valor Academy has become one of the D-Fenders biggest fans. They have come to several games and even had a special FIT Live Healthy Week visit from some of the players to talk about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle.

    To conclude NBA D-League FIT – Live Healthy Week the Los Angeles D-Fenders made a visit to Valor Academy. Three D-Fenders players, Zach Andrews, Brian Hamilton and Otis George participated in a discussion with 75 7th grade students about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle.
    Los Angeles D-Fenders Host Basketball Clinic for NJB Walnut
    The Los Angeles D-Fenders continued their Season of Giving as the players, coaches and staff hosted a basketball clinic for 100 NJB Walnut basketball players on December 18th. The two-hour clinic focused on teaching Kindergarteners through 8th graders fundamental offensive and defensive basketball skills.
    D-Fenders Season of Giving Event: Los Angeles Regional Food Bank
    To tip off the Los Angeles D-Fender’s Season of Giving holiday initiative the players, coaches and staff visited the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to help with the Food Sorting Project.
    D-Fenders Visit Palms Middle School's Team Prime Time
    The Los Angeles D-Fenders began their community outreach this week with a visit to Palms Middle School and their afterschool athletic mentoring program Team Prime Time.
