Utah Jazz
The Utah Jazz has a strong tradition of giving back to the community, and each year the team implements a variety of outreach events and programs that play an important role. Whether it’s visiting hospitalized children during the holidays, feeding the hungry at Thanksgiving, building public basketball courts or collecting coats for those in need, the Jazz makes an ongoing effort to reach out to fans and improve the quality of life in Utah.
TEAM PROGRAMS
Started in 1983, Jr. Jazz is the longest-running youth basketball league in the NBA. Nearly 60,000 youth from Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, Arizona and Montana participate in the program annually. Jr. Jazz emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork and fundamental basketball skills. Each Jazz player participates in one to two Jr. Jazz clinics per year, where they speak to youth and conduct basketball clinics.
Be a Team Player – Read! is a highly successful program aimed at increasing literacy skills among children. During a four-week periods of time, local elementary schools log students’ out-of-school reading time. The top 10 schools are rewarded with a Jazz player visit. Last year, 32,803 students read almost 23 million minutes.
Leapin’ Leaners & Low Tops is a fundraiser designed to give fans interaction with players while raising money for Larry H. Miller Charities, a non-profit foundation that focuses on children’s issues in the areas of health and education. Fans are encouraged to wear formal attire and gym shoes to EnergySolutions Arena, where they participate in a variety of unique events.
