Oklahoma City Thunder
The Thunder Community Relations Department works to create programs and partnerships that make a positive impact on the greater Oklahoma City community. Our primary focus is on youth, with an emphasis on reading and literacy, health and fitness, and youth basketball. Our primary outreach consists of Auction Donations, Read To Achieve, Thunder Fit, the Thunder-OU Scholarship Program, Black History Heroes Challenge and Holiday Assist.
TEAM PROGRAMS
This bus travels to schools, community centers, museums, parks and other sites throughout the year to promote reading and literacy. Each student who visits the bus receives a free book to promote a love of reading. To date, the book bus has distributed over 25,000 books to preK-9th grade readers.
Thunder Fit is part of the overall NBA Fit initiative. Thunder Fit consists of interactive fitness clinics primarily targeting middle school students. Activities focus on strength training, cardio/basketball drills, core training and nutrition. The goal is to show students fun and simple ways to lead healthier, active lives.
